VISITING THE SOS VILLAGE ESTATE

On 26th of December our service group had a trip to SOS Village. The trip was full of new experiences such as looking around the area and visiting one of the households.
It was my second time there. Thus, I was quite familiar with the organization and lifestyle maintained at the Village. However, for most of the members of our service group, it was a new experience. After we arrived there we have been shown the grounds and different departments and facilities provided at the place. Even though I have visited this SOS Village before, it was my first excursion on the entire territory. Before that, I only read about the facilities provided at this organization. This tour gave all of us an idea what is SOS Village is indeed about.
After we finished observing the area, we were invited to one the households, a family unit at SOS Village. It was exciting to experience the environment in which these children live. The children and their "mother" were very amicable and kind. They showed us the rooms and offered us some chocolate roll and soda which evoked nostalgic feeling of childhood.
During the second half of the time spent there, we played football with them and other children at SOS Village. All of them were talented and skilled in this game. I particularly want to mentioned a girl (it was quite surprising) who seemed to be a professional soccer player. Indeed, my assumptions were later confirmed. She has been recently invited to a junior football national team of Sri Lanka. This just astonished me!
Another memorable thing of the trip was an opportunity to meet some of the children from the group of children we worked with last year. They seemed happy to see us although were shy to share their life experiences and events that happened to them after our last meeting.
